Changing of the Guard

The new Whitesville 6... and the old Whitesville 4

The Whitesville Fire Department recently purchased this 2010 Chevrolet and equipment for the Independence Fire District.  The department has been saving money from fundraisers and from donations received.  We are extremely thankful to the Whitesville and neighboring communities for supporting our fundraising efforts allowing us to purchase this new truck.  We are proud to present this new addition to our firefighting equipment roster.

So as you look at the firefighter with his rake, hose or axe,
His beet red face or ice covered mustache,
You should know why he goes through that smoky front door,
And is forced to crawl like a baby down on the floor.
He does it to save both lives and property,
All that is precious to you and to me.
So take a good look at this modern warrior who serves his call proud and true,
And know that he would die just to save me and you.
~Robert J. Athans

In memory of Eddie Sackett

June 18, 1949 - August 20, 2010

"Pooh Bear" was a 39 year member and current President of Andover NY Volunteer Fire Department, a 28 year member of Andover Rescue Squad, past president of Allegany County Firemen’s Association and Andover’s representative on the Allegany County Fire Advisory Board

Eddie was a friend to all who knew him... around town, at the fire station, on the school bus...

and in Fulmer Valley playing cards - "Jacks or better, trips to win" was Ed's game of choice.

Here's the Ace you were always looking for...

Rest in peace, my friend... may the Lord deal you the Ace of Spades every hand!
